National Safety Month

National Safety Month takes place each June as a way to raise awareness about preventable injuries, which are one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Discovering ways in which you can better keep your environment, both at work and at home, safe is one of the best ways to eliminate hazards.

Safety is an integral part of our everyday lives. How can we make our vehicles safer? Our homes? How about staying safe at work? By asking these questions, we create conversations and open the dialogue about how we can better protect ourselves and our loved ones, so we can all make it home safely each night.

The National Safety Council assigned a different safety topic to each week in June. These topics emphasize the importance of safety throughout the workplace.

Week 1 (June 1-7): Continuous Improvement

The first week of June is also National CPR and AED Awareness Week. An emergency can happen anytime, anywhere. Knowing CPR and how to use an AED can SAVE LIVES. Take part in a CPR and AED Training this week to learn about these lifesaving techniques. TekSolv offers CPR and AED Training. Week 2 (June 8 - 14): Employee Engagement

Creating a culture that allows employees to share insights and suggestions is important. This week, explore new ways that you can support engagement at work. Also, consider holding an open discussion with your employees to see how you can improve moving forward.

Week 3 (June 15-21): Roadway Safety

Roadway safety affects everyone. Unless you never leave your house, chances are, you are on the road often. In 2023, motor-vehicle crashes resulted in 44,762 deaths. Every time you are on the road, you are at risk. However, you can reduce your risk by practicing safe driving and staying alert. Use this week as an opportunity to discover ways you can drive more safely and reduce the likelihood of you being in an accident.

Week 4 (June 22 - 30): Wellbeing

Workplace wellbeing is an expansive topic that considers the impact of several wellbeing-related risks on workplace safety and health. These risks may not always be visible on the surface but can still greatly impact an individual's safety. Wellbeing risks range from fatigue and psychological safety to substance abuse and mental health. Learn more in The NSC's blog article here.

Each week is a great opportunity to highlight different areas of safety, participate in activities, and educate yourself and others on ways to improve safety in all aspects of your life.
